Atlantic beaches, distinct sectors

The Óbidos Coast region groups open Atlantic beach breaks and the lagoon mouth at Foz do Arelho. Each spot has its own profile — compare sectors rather than treating the whole area as one homogenous coast.

Atlantic coast and lagoon — two settings

Óbidos Coast is the Silver Coast's open shoreline — not the medieval town inland. Long Atlantic beaches, dunes and a separate lagoon environment where exposure, sandbanks and sector matter for surf.

Óbidos Coast groups two distinct environments: an open Atlantic shoreline running north from Peniche, and the sheltered Lagoa de Óbidos, a coastal lagoon separated from the ocean by a low sand spit.

Atlantic coast

Open beaches north from Peniche towards Foz do Arelho — exposed to Atlantic swell and wind, with shifting sandbanks.

Lagoa de Óbidos

A sheltered coastal lagoon behind a sand spit — a different environment from the ocean beaches, with its own uses and access points.

01

Exposure comes first

An open coastline offers less shelter from Atlantic weather. Check the local wind and swell before committing.

02

Read the sandbanks

Peaks and channels move. A familiar beach can look and break differently on your next visit.

03

Separate ocean and lagoon

The Lagoa de Óbidos is a sheltered coastal lagoon — not the same setting as the exposed Atlantic beaches. Do not read one sector's conditions as applying to the other.

Same Atlantic swell.
Different local response.
